Yes, apparently I'm only watching shows/movies that have one word titles. Assume spoilers and continuing Arrow hate-spew behind the appropriate cuts. Also a rousing chorus of "I'm Still Here" from Follies.
As in way more than I thought I would. I really liked Shaun of the Dead, but Hot Fuzz was a major let-down and I just didn't think another "genre-take" with Simon and Nick would all that appealing, but hubby wanted to go...and I absolutely adored it. Like from the first second.
Yes, I realize this is massively late. I saw the movie back in March and its Oscar season has already come and gone. It's just that I've been in a slump for a month and I've got some energy right now, so I figure I better get as much catch-up blogging done as I can while it lasts.
I liked this movie way more than I thought I would. Basically I think Sam Raimi managed to get everything right that Tim Burton completely failed to accomplish with Alice.
Two incredibly different movies in genre, style, tone and yet in a way, they're both revenge fantasy movies, predicated on the concept that whatever the identification figures do is justified because the baddies are so much worse.
Long piece of writing ahead. I'm in Pauline Kael mode today.
Turns out I'm off this week, which I didn't even realize until last Wednesday, so it's a nice surprised. Hubby had already scheduled a second week off to give himself down-time after the Sesshin.
